My Mother – Part 2

“So John, we’ve been seeing each other for a while now. Exactly what are we becoming?” asked Eve. “What do you mean?” responded John. “Are we going to continually stay in the ‘friends’ category? All we talk about is surface stuff. When will we talk about those things that will help each of us determine if we should pursue more than friendship?” Eve stated. “I see where you’re going with these questions. I think it’s time I filled you in on a few things” replied John.

“As you know, a couple of years ago, the relationship I was in ended. What I didn’t tell you about her was that she was older than I am. She’d just recently moved to the area and we met at a local dine-in restaurant. It was crowded and she was at a table alone. I asked her if I could join her. Over the meal, I learned that she was new to the area so I offered to show her around town in order for her to get familiar with her new surroundings. From that day on, we spent a lot of time together” commented John.

“How long were you two together” asked Eve. “For a year” supplied John. “Things were really good between us, or so I thought. One day, she said to me that she thought we were moving too fast. That maybe I should rethink wanting to be in a relationship with her because her child was basically my age” explained John. “What? How much older than you was she?” exclaimed Eve. “She’s seventeen years older than I am” said John.
