How do we begin?
Having reached my age and still not having had a successful lasting dating relationship in my life, at some point, it was revealed to me that I never consulted God about the men I was allowing in my life. Not once, before things got too complicated, did I ask Him anything about the person. Not until my heart was broken and I wanted to know why. This time around, I purposed to not only know better but to do better.
When he showed up in my life, the very first thing I did was to talk to God about him. I told God everything I knew about this man BEFORE I ever responded to his request to get to know me. That being done, I walked in peace about engaging with him as we began to communicate with each other.
This was so different from any other relationship I’d ever been in and it appeared to be the easiest one I’ve ever had. All because I went to the One who not only knew me but He knew the man as well. As a result, we were able to effectively communicate what we desired from the other person without fear of loss because we both knew that God was leading us toward each other. Oh what a feeling.
Even if things didn’t work out, there was no disappointment wrapped in guilt, shame or loss because we totally relied on the Lord’s leadership. And since we were not able to create the win-win relationship we both needed, we were able to move on and trust God for the next dating relationship. This time, we would begin from a place of a positive experience. Which allows us to be more sure of ourselves when the next person came into our lives.
